Wooden Casement window repairs are offered throughout London. We will splice defective timber, draught proof, and repair casement windows. Our wooden casement window repair service is cost effective and environmentally friendly. This page shows a typical idea of the length we can and will go to in avoiding entire wooden casement window replacement.
In this example the owner had beautiful lead light case which was in perfectly good condition. The problem being the whole lower section had been neglected for many years and required entire replacement. No other company quoting were prepared to consider repair as the work far too extensive. We had no problem offering a repair solution because the cost still considerably less than replacement. We manufactured seven new sashes in our workshop in advance and set a date for installation. Carefully, one by one the mullion cut out and then replaced. We had to take this steadily because looking at the casement bay closely you can see there will not be all that much support to take the weight of the roof. This meant that totally removing all mullion at once could result in total collapse. Not a risk we would take and therefore the only solution is to remove one by one, slowly and conscientiously. It added an additional process. We could not splice the sill that was replaced in one piece either. Instead the bay had to be put together section by section.
As you can see the hard work is now done and at this point the repairs are structurally good. It is now a case of tidying up the repairs and putting all the pieces back together. As I previously mentioned we pre fabricated the wooden casement sashes the same dimensions as the originals making the whole process relatively simple to put back together. Wooden casement window repairs of this nature are relatively cost effective, but we do need to consider more than half of the window has been replaced. The client received replacement quotes ranging from £6000 to replace the bay, plus the cost of lead light. We repaired this bay for less than £3000 which represents a considerable saving considering the extent of the repair work required. A repair of this nature will take two to three days and at some point in the process it is likely we would need to board up. Some clients are not comfortable with this, especially ground floor. With this bay being upstairs and difficult to access this was not an issue. That being the very reason maintenance not being kept up and the window in the poor condition we found it. Once we made good the framework all that is left is to hang and refit sashes then make good.
There we have the window professionally rebuilt. If the maintenance is kept up then there is no reason why this window shouldn’t last another twenty years. It is essential in this situation that painting be carried out every three to four years because the bay protrudes and gets the full weather, both sunlight breaking the paint down, and driving rain. Wooden casement window repairs are affordable and make for an excellent solution when compared with the cost of full wooden casement window replacement.o problem offering a repair solution because the cost still considerably less than replacement.
